Valentines Day 2006. And whilst love is in the air, our film projects are very definitely up in the air. For the short film we are waiting for what could be our last producer to get back to us. We should find out in the next day or so, which is exciting. Of course, all this does is mean we can get an application in for the next round of funding. The money still seems some way away yet.
In good news, the last short film I directed finally has it’s UK premiere at the Commonwealth Film Festival. We continue to make headway on our thriller feature script, CotW, which should be making it’s way to a script editor in a little over a month.
I am stuck between a half written script which I thought I could forget about, and a half written treatment I thought I wanted to write. I think I just need to finish something. I did finish this first film once, but it needs work. I really enjoy working on the screenplay, but it’s such a personal character driven piece I wonder if it’s better to knock out a cheap thriller in the mean time so that I have two up my sleeve. I guess that makes sense.
I am also in prep for a music video. It’s an effects heavy type of affair, which is exposing me to a whole new way of thinking. This is no bad thing, and I’m enjoying the process of learning what is possible and what isn’t. At least, on our budget.
Music videos are great as you focus on the creative. It stimulates the imagination. The lack of money also motivates you to come up with creative ways of solving expensive problems for very little money. There are a couple more in the pipeline, so I’ll add more on those soon.
